My brother Stephen went to Hancock Medical on 1/28 and was diagnosed with bronchitis. They gave him a breathing treatment, steroid shot, and Z-pack then sent him home. On 2/1, he was admitted into Hancock Medical with pneumonia in his lower left lung. He laid in a bed for days while all they did was give him breathing treatments every 4 hours. The pneumonia spread into both lungs causing him to have difficulty breathing. On 2/3, they did a bronchoscopy and then intubated him. Later that evening, we were told he wasn't going to make it through the night. He was Life Flighted to UMMC on 2/4 where he currently is fighting for his life. Upon arriving at UMMC, we found out that Stephen was positive for Flu Type A. He is currently on life support including ECMO, kidney dialysis, and ventilator. Stephen does not have medical insurance.
