Stephen’s Thymus Transplant
Stephen was diagnosed with a heart defect in utero which required him to have open heart surgery two weeks after being born. (Truncus Arteriosus)
The surgery was a success. And Stephen’s heart is doing great. (He is a strong warrior!) He will need future heart surgeries but hopefully not in the near future.
After his surgery Stephen was diagnosed with Complete Digeorge syndrome. Children with this rare syndrome are born without a thymus. Because of his absent thymus Stephen is severely immunocompromised. His body cannot fight off infection & disease on its own. If he were to get sick it could be life threatening..
But there is hope.
There are only two centers in the world that provide thymus transplants. One at Duke in North Carolina and the other at Great Ormond Children’s hospital in London. We are currently on the wait list at Duke (2+ years). There is no wait in London.
Unfortunately Insurance in the states is not willing to cover any medical expenses outside the country. So we need your help. We understand that everyone has there own expenses and we do not want to sent anyone back!
But. It would mean the world to us if you could donate to help our baby boy get this life changing procedure. Anything helps.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ❤️
God bless you all!
