On Monday, November 9th, Stephen called me urgently as I arrived at work at 7:30 A.M. I had never heard him sound so distressed. He was screaming in pain about calling an ambulance. Immediately, I rushed home, but he had already been escorted to the ER. His diverticulitis had caused an abscess in his intestine to erupt. The doctor said he was lucky he made it to the hospital. We weren’t sure if he was going to have to have surgery or if the infection would go away once everything was drained. Day 9 came, and still nothing had improved. In fact, 2 more abscesses had formed. His doctor decided to proceed with the surgery to cut his abdomen open, remove and clean the abscess and infection, and attach a colostomy bag that he will have for 3 months. Who would have thought after his car accident that almost ended his life in 2006, he’d be back in the hospital for an extended period of time. After losing his job when COVID forced his restaurant to close, we didn’t think it 2020 could get worse. While we are thankful for his recovery, it will be a long road, physically, emotionally, and financially. We would appreciate your thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult time for our family. We love you all.
