Hi, my name is Misty I'm raising money for my cousin and his wife Jenn and there 3 children as Stephen is battleing Covid and recovery. Friday July 23rd Stephen started feeling sick and Sunday July 25th he tested positive for Covid. Tuesday July 27th in the evening he went to Lakeland regional because his breathing was getting hard, he stayed there about 5 or 6 hours (most of which was in the ER waiting room) they diagnosed him with pneumonia from Covid, prescribed him cough syrup with codeine and sent him on his way. No steroids no antibiotics nothing to treat the pneumonia. Come about 7am Friday morning (July 30th) he couldn't breath and he went to the ER at plant city hospital. His lungs were only functioning at 20%. They sent him straight to Brandon regional via ambulance where he was admitted to their Covid ICU. He fought and fought trying to heal his lungs without the need for mechanical ventilation but his lungs were too poorly damaged. At this point he was suffering from pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. His lungs were beginning to harden and we're equal to those of a 90 year old with COPD so after 15 days in the ICU fighting they had to put him on the ventilator on August 14th. There were alot of ups and downs between a seizure fevers a lung collapse his oxygen would get better and worse it was like a rollercoaster that was out of control. Friday august 27th they had planned to do a tracheostomy because he had been intubated for 13 days but decided against it and Saturday august 28th at 11:10 am they took him off of the ventilator. Since then he has been doing amazing but there's still a long journey to recovery.
