Dear Friends, Family, and Community,
In memory of Stephen Strutynski, a beloved artist, mentor, and visual arts teacher, we hope to create something that reflects what mattered so deeply to him: encouraging young people, believing in their potential, and making them feel truly seen.
We are raising funds to establish a $1,500 annual art award for a graduating student with plans to pursue a post secondary art education. The first award will be presented at the end of the 2026-2027 school year.
Stephen's family will be involved in the selection of the recipient and the presentation of the award in his memory. Through them, Stephen's connection to art education will continue.
Our fundraising goal is $30,000, which we hope will establish a lasting fund to support the annual award for many years to come.
Throughout his life, Stephen faced significant health challenges that affected his mobility, but this never stopped him from pursuing a rigorous arts career. Art became a meaningful way for him to overcome adversity and navigate living with a disability.
We hope his courage and perseverance inspire others, reminding us that strength can be found through creative expression.
Those who knew Stephen knew how deeply art and teaching were woven into his life. He encouraged his students to find their voice, take creative risks, and see where their art could take them. That same spirit was reflected in the future he was building with his son—a future grounded in possibility. This award is a meaningful way to carry a little of that forward.
Thank you for helping us honour Stephen's legacy by giving generations of young artists the encouragement and opportunity to take their work seriously and discover where it might lead them.
With love and gratitude,
Stephen's family.
