Through desire to obtain better qualification and remain relevant to changes taking place in the information industry, in 2013 , Stephen Kizza in Uganda undertook a Master of Science in Information Science study at Makerere University, Kampala Uganda. This was made possible through a successful campaign ( available here
) to raise the required tuition. Classroom studies were completed in 2016 , while development of an acceptable research proposal has lasted on until recently in 2019 when Stephen was granted permission to proceed to the next level. This level involves going to the field , collect raw data , presentation and analysis of results, all presented in a thesis. This will lead to eventual completion of the study and attaining the award, without which the study is incomplete.
The challenge Stephen am facing is how to meet the travel expenses involved in data collection , payments of research assistants who will be involved in distribution and collection of questionnaires, payment of a statistician who will analyse data , final presentation of findings ; and printing and hard cover binding of five copies of the thesis.
These expenses are itemized as here below:
1. Literature review, instrument design and photocopying = $300
2.Personnel travel costs to different libraries) and allowances = $400
3. Statistician costs during instrument design & data analysis = $150
4. Final report presentation, printing, binding & other unforeseen expenses = $150.
Total requirement: $1000
This amount is urgent required to enable me embark on the process and be able to graduate in January 2020, when the next graduation is due. If the required funds are not raised on time (first amounts available on July 1, 2019), then graduation will be delayed until 2021. Even if that were the case, your donations are greatly appreciated!
Your contribution , how ever modest will be, is humbly appreciated and will contribute towards development of the information professional and improvement of services in ministerial libraries; since users will then be better served. Stephen will then be able to obtain the award which , without your much needed contribution, he is unable to, constrained by both time and financial resources.
