Dear friends, family, perhaps strangers even – Hello, all!

Crossing the street on a green light should be safe, but suddenly it's not. In the blink of an eye, Stephan's life was changed.

Who is this fundraiser for?

My brother Stephan – a loving father, husband, son and brother. Residing and working in Japan.

Stephan is a kind person with much humour, which he even tries to maintain through his ongoing ordeal. The other day I saw him laughing for a minute, in between his painful breathing.

What happened to Stephan?

On his way to work, Stephan went over a pedestrian crossing when he was hit by a cargo truck.

He now lies in a hospital bed with excruciating pain. Among other injuries, he suffers from a broken foot, broken leg, broken ribs, broken arm and a part of his face is also shattered. Much of his skin is scraped off. He will spend 2–4 months in the hospital undergoing several operations and treatments, followed by extensive rehabilitation. We are ever so grateful he’s alive, with no brain or vital organ damage, but the road to recovery is long and challenging.

Why do we need help?

The medical expenses are significant, immediately and with regard to future rehabilitation. On top of this, the family has lost a critical source of income while he recovers. We hope he will return to work.

Making matters worse, the truck driver and his insurance company are doing everything they can to cover as litte as possible.

How will we use your donations?

Legal aid: To secure justice and ensure the family receives rightful compensation.

Medical expenses: Operations, treatments, rehabilitation etc.

Family support: To cover living expenses while Stephan is unable to work.

Any and all funds raised will help ease the burden on Stephan, Keika and their children during this incredibly challenging time.
