Hello, My name is Kelli, I am the instructor for "Beaches & Boots Line Dancers" Carolina Beach. Each October we organize a Witches Walk about fundraiser for a local person or family dealing with a personal or medical issues that can quickly drain ones finances. (we do not have 501 c3 designation)
Stephanie Sumner is one of the most positive people I have ever met and we are honored to try to help in any way we can. We hope you can help to.
Here is her story. Stephanie was in the best shape of her life, a marathon runner and CrossFit athlete for over 13 years, when she was suddenly diagnosed with colon cancer in March 2023. Emergency surgery revealed a 5 cm mass, and despite treatment, the cancer spread to her lungs. In May 2025 she underwent a double open thoracotomy to remove 31 tumors, but new metastases have since developed. She now travels to Duke every three weeks for treatment and to Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York for surgery and radiation, all while working full time and raising two teenagers. Cancer is isolating and frightening, but Stephanie refuses to let it slow her down. Her family, Carolina Beach residents for 10 years, are grateful for the love and kindness of their community.
