Stephanie’s Corneal Transplant

Donation protected
Hi my name is Stephanie Baker and I'm 26 years old. I have a 1 year old baby girl, who means absolutely EVERYTHING to me. I have been working since the age of 18, when one day I learned that I have an eye disease called Keratoconus. Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease, in which the normally round cornea thins and begins to bulge into a cone-like shape. This cone shape deflects light as it enters the eye on its way to the light-sensitive retina, causing distorted vision. I’m a full-time working mom with a very busy schedule and my condition limits my daily operations. I’m often forced to drive in the night hours with my daughter and its difficult to see, which makes me very afraid.

Also, most of my work requires me to use a computer and the Keratoconus makes it tremendously difficult to focus. This is holding me back from pursuing better opportunities for myself, in terms of applying for higher positions at work, pursuing better employment, and even going back to school.

This eye disease has had a large impact on my life and my livelihood. I don't have the same confidence I used to have when I was able to see. I don't feel like I can be independent because I am constantly asking people for assistance to check my work, or help me see certain things I am unable to.

The worse and hardest part for me is not being able to read to my daughter without the book literally being in my face. I am missing out on priceless moments with her because I cannot see. I can only see her beautiful face when she is very close to me. There is just so much I cannot do in my life that I want to do because I am constantly struggling with my vision. Keratoconus has changed my life completely, and I no longer feel like the same person I was before.

There’s an opportunity for me to see again by having surgery to correct my vision. Unfortunately, the surgery I need is not required by the FDA to be covered under all insurances. It is very expensive and something I cannot afford to pay out of pocket. I kindly and humbly ask for your help to regain my vision and take back my life.

I want to be the best mom in the world to and I want nothing more than to see my daughter grow. Any donations given will be greatly appreciated.

THANK YOU!!
