Hi my name is Nan, and Stephanie is one of my oldest friends, in fact we went to primary school together. On the 24th May 2025 Stephanie’s husband Gareth was admitted to Carmarthen hospital in South Wales and was found to have a 9cm abdominal aortic aneurysm and a 4cm aneurysm in his neck.

Unfortunately the skills needed to deal with this immediately life threatening condition could not be dealt with at any local hospitals, and Gareth had to be transferred to St Mary’s Hospital in London.

He underwent an 11 hour emergency operation via keyhole surgery to save his life. 24 hours later it would have been a different story. One of the aneurysms had already started to dissect.

since his operation he has been in the intensive care unit, sedated and ventilated and we are half way through week 3. In the next few days he should be having a tracheostomy which hopefully will make his transition from the ventilator a smoother one.

So far Stephanie has been accommodated by friends on the outskirts of London and is travelling into Paddington most days.

We are at the point now of needing to fund accommodation, travel and basic expenses.

As it stands Stephanie is going to struggle over the next weeks and months to manage these costs as she is miles from home, friends and family, and these costs are additional to her usual bills.

As her friend I am trying to support her as much as I can and I know she has been getting well wishes from friends and family.

The help she requires currently is financial, as we don’t know how long Gareth will be at St Mary’s before being medically fit to return to Wales.

Stephanie is aware of me setting up this page but would not wish to ask for this help herself.

Please help in anyway you can, I realise that the current financial climate is difficult but if you could find a way to contribute even the smallest amount, it would help to alleviate some of the pressure and stress that this current situation has thrust upon her.
