Young “Ocean Scientists” Engage New Minds!

Donation protected
In 2018 Stephanie and Kaitlyn did a project in Grade 8 and won the prize which was to launch a mini boat, the Raven Kaster off the Grand Banks of Newfoundland and Labrador. This boat was decorated and filled with letter and pictures and items from their class and launched thanks to Maersk off the Grand Banks in November 2018.

We tracked this little boat over the ocean using GPS. Through storms and currents which had us all on the edge of our seats until it made landfall on Keel Beach in Dookinella Beach, Achill Island, Ireland in February 2019 by a local fisherman with little damage besides the mast which had cracked off.

The girls who have since both graduated high school and are in their first year of medical and ocean sciences in Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador are heading to Ireland to help the youth of Achill Island relaunch the Raven Kaster with new technology and tracking equipment along with visiting some of the marine and ocean schools along with some of the beautiful scenery where their mini boat landed!

We need help! It takes a lot of money to get there and stay and eat and visit all the schools and on a university student’s budget, that is not an option.

Please help! Spread the word. Help us get these girls to Ireland and refit their boat and see where the ocean takes it this time!!
