Stephanie and Easton

Easton and Stephanie are my son and daughter-in-law. On October 19th at 16 weeks pregnant, their son was diagnosed with MMC- myelomeningocele or open spina bifida. Stephanie had prenatal open fetal repair surgery on December 15 to give their baby the chance at the best life possible after birth. 

This surgery will hopefully help lower the risk for needing more brain surgeries after birth and could possibly help him retain more mobility in his legs. This area of the spine affected however, makes it likely that he will be wheelchair bound for his lifetime. 

The surgery was a success but unfortunately Stephanie’s water broke on January 13th and is finishing her bedrest at Children’s Hospital until she or the baby decide it’s time to be born. 

Stephanie will be unable to work from surgery until a few months after birth (5+ months); Easton will be unable to work in order to take care of Stephanie while she is on bedrest, as well as their daughter. Since neither are able to to work for the foreseeable future, they are going to have an extremely hard time keeping on normal finances (mortgage, utilities, etc.) as well as the massive amount of medical bills from diagnosis, procedures, multiple surgeries for Stephanie and baby, and multiple hospitalizations for both.
