Hi everyone. Thank you for visiting the Step Up Virtual fundraiser :)
In low-income communities across Canada, high school dropout rates can reach 50% or more which can have lasting social, economic, and health impacts on the individuals and their communities. We are four friends who are deeply passionate about tackling this statistic by delivering engaging and accessible learning opportunities to improve youth’s education and future outcomes.
In 2020, we founded Step Up Virtual (SUV), a free 4-week online program designed for high school students from low income families. We want to provide students who may not traditionally have access to student development programs the opportunity to build their career knowledge, leadership and communication skills, and critical thinking. Our vision at SUV centers on the belief that all students deserve the opportunity to explore their passions, discover new interests, and grow as community leaders, regardless of their background.
Last year, we ran a successful pilot program for 25 students across 12 schools in the Greater Toronto Area. Students attended numerous personal and professional skill-development workshops hosted by our program partners, diverse panels, 1:1 mentorship sessions, and completed an Innovation Challenge, in which students design a solution to a problem they are passionate about.
With our goal of running two cohorts in the Ontario and Prairies region this year, we need your help to raise $2,000. This will support our:
- Program operations (e.g., Zoom license)
- Program rewards for 25 students x 2 cohorts (e.g., one meal delivered)
- Ongoing fund to subsidize students for future university and scholarship application fees
All additional funds over the fundraising goal will go towards supporting the current and future cohorts. We hope you will join us on our journey!
