Thank you for taking a few moments out of your busy day to read about 12-year-old Kai and his incredible family. They’re living every parent’s nightmare and facing a long road ahead as they navigate a pediatric cancer journey.
Kai, a bright and adventurous kid from Southbury, Connecticut, was recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive osteosarcoma bone cancer in his leg. After a snowstorm, Kai hit his knee while sledding, and that accident is what led Mom and Dad (Stacey and Cory) to get him to the doctor where the tumor was discovered. That sledding injury turned into a blessing as Kai’s medical team jumped to action, ordering test after test to fully understand his diagnosis and quickly map out a treatment plan. Because of their swift advocacy, Kai is already on the path toward fighting this.
The fight ahead is long and grueling. Kai will soon begin 10 weeks of chemotherapy, followed by an extensive surgery to remove the tumor and reconstruct his leg, with the possibility of prosthetics needed. After surgery, Kai will face another 20 weeks of chemotherapy and countless months of physical therapy to learn to use his leg again. That’s a lot of time away from a 12-year-old life he loves.
And Kai truly loves life.
Kai pitches and plays first base for Pomperaug Youth Baseball, where his genuine love of the game sets the tone. He is the player every coach hopes for, and he brings unmatched heart to his team. He’s the kid who truly wants to be there, and he’s a player that is genuinely grateful for every minute on the field.
Before this tumor started causing him pain, you could find Kai doing everything and anything outdoorsy, morning to night. Hiking with his three siblings (Savannah, Lincoln & Isla), swimming, or chipping golf balls in the yard with the neighborhood kids. He’s always down for a wiffleball game, helping Dad take care of the yard & garden, or cheering for friends at their own sporting events. He’s the kind of kid who doesn't sit still for long. Kai’s curious, energetic, and always ready for the next game or adventure.
Now, his energy is being redirected to the fight of his life.
Your donation will help ease the immense financial burden of ongoing treatment, travel, hotel stays near the hospital, time away from work, and the many unexpected costs that come with long-term medical care. More than that, it reminds Kai and his family that they are not facing this alone. If you can’t donate, sharing Kai’s story means the world, as does keeping this special family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you, truly, for the love, prayers, and generosity you’ve shown their family as we rally around this resilient kid and help him get back to the field, the trails, and the childhood he deserves.
With hope and gratitude,
Danielle (Kai's Aunt) & Amanda (Close Family Friend)
We will continue to share updates on Kai’s progress and treatment journey on this page, so everyone supporting him can stay connected and follow along as he fights his way through this.
