Step by Step: Support Steve Weintraub's Recovery
Donation protected
Tayere khaveyrim & klezmorim,
I'm reaching out on behalf of our beloved Steve Weintraub -- a guiding light in the world of Yiddish dance. If you’ve ever danced a freylekhs with Steve, experienced the generosity of his teaching, or witnessed the way he brings a room to life with his movement and heart, you know what a treasure he is.
Steve has been facing increasing mobility challenges, which began in 2023 and have now been diagnosed as hydrocephalus, a condition caused by a buildup of fluid on the brain. Thankfully, this is treatable. His doctors at Emory Hospital believe a surgical procedure to place a shunt may relieve the pressure and restore his mobility.
But like so many artists and independent teachers, Steve is now navigating the financial strain of ongoing medical tests, travel to appointments, and the anticipated costs associated with surgery and recovery time without the safety net of paid time off. He has not been able to dance, teach, or travel in his current condition.
This fundraiser is a way for us, his students, colleagues, and community, to give back to someone who has given so much to us. Whether you’ve danced with him, played music alongside him, learned from him, or simply want to support the cultural work of Yiddish dance, please consider donating.
18, chai, is the number of life! Any amount helps. And, if you are not in a position to give right now, sharing this campaign is a big help.
Let’s help Steve dance again; with strength, health, and the same radiant joy he’s shared with all of us.
Mit a hartsikn dank,
