STEM Team trip to D.C.

Donation protected
The Coding Hex is a team of four 9-10 year old homeschoolers who participate in STEM competitions. Last week, they were named the team winners for their age division for the 2018 InventIt Challenge for their invention of the FilTurbine Guttering System. It is an innovative way to utilize guttering and downspouts already in place to not only collect water in an underground cistern, but also to generate energy using turbines as the water is collected. To see their winning submission and to learn more about the InventIt Challenge please visit https://inventit2018.challenges.epals.com/

They will be honored at a very special reception in Washington DC with the Yoon family, some of whom will be coming from as far as Korea to join the festivities.  Dr. Yoon was a prolific inventor whose creations have recently been put on display at the Smithsonian. Thanks to the generous support of the family of Dr. InBae Yoon, winners in all age categories will be able to head to the nation’s capital to participate in STEM focused activities at the SparkLab, and take behind the scenes tours of the Smithsonian. To top it all off, the winners’ inventions will be put on display at the Lemelson Center for the next year.

It is an honor and a privilege for these students to represent Southwest Missouri during this amazing trip. The team members and coaches travel expenses are covered, but they are busy fundraising so that their families can join them to support their children for this very special honor and trip of a lifetime! We appreciate your support!
