Stem cell transplant for Dennis

Donation protected
The Background
For those of you who do not know me, I am Leah Hales, one of Dennis' daughters. I am hoping to raise money to help him through this tough journey he is on. Many of you do not know that Dennis was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in March of 2022. At that time, lesions were found in both of his legs, his hip, pancreas, and a lymph node near his sigmoid colon. He received a month of radiation and has recently completed a 6-month course of chemotherapy. The next step will be a stem cell transplant scheduled this coming October. This is a pretty serious matter but is the best chance he has at a full remission for 10+ years. Without the transplant, he could only expect remission of 2 years at best.

The Procedure
A stem cell transplant is a serious procedure that can be lifesaving. First, they will harvest stem cells from his blood. Then, he will be hospitalized for 2 weeks where he will receive a massive dose of chemo to knock his immune system/bone marrow way down. Next, they will reintroduce the stem cells back into his body. This will require close monitoring for any sign of infection. Any infection would be very serious and could potentially be fatal. At this point, he will be released into my care and will have to remain at home for 2-3 months with someone monitoring him and providing assistance. During this time frame, he will receive additional infusions.

The Donation
During the time in which Dennis has to remain at home and receive care, his children: Hannah, Noah, and myself, as well as a few friends: Jaimie, Isaac, and Alan will provide care. He is very blessed in that his employer has been very accommodating and helpful throughout this process. He will be, however, out of work for roughly 3 months which is why I am here asking on my daddy's behalf for donations that will help him financially throughout the rest of this journey. He is feeling very positive about this, but naturally, is a little scared. Your prayers and support will be greatly appreciated!

A Note from Dennis
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am confident that this will be a positive experience and that I will pull through just fine, but likely it won't be fun. I wish the best for you and your loved ones! As I reflect on all of the lives that have crossed my path, I can only hold them with gratitude and love. Thank you again, even if all you can send me is a positive thought or a loving prayer!
