My very active and independent 85 yr old mom suddenly became paralyzed from the neck down suddenly from a cyst that grew in her spine two and a half years ago. The initial diagnosis when I took her to the hospital was just inflammation in the neck and gave her pain killers for her neck pain. After the third ER visit, they said they would admit her for UTI. After discharging her to a rehab clinic, the neck pain wasn’t addressed so I called the ambulance from there to have her get another look at another hospital. That’s where they found the cyst in her spine and said she needed surgery like yesterday. They said surgery is to only prevent her condition from getting worse. Miraculously, she was able to move her limbs after surgery. Her recovery was horrific. Her hospital PT was 6 weeks long, and she had relearn everything again from feeding herself to how to walk. During her recovery, she had Gabapentin withdrawal, Covid, UTI, CDIF, and hypercalcemia. She couldn’t urinate so she had to have a urine bag for two months. She was on a wheelchair for 8 months and now walks with a walker permanently. She fell so many times because she has trouble with her gait after surgery. She lives with 24 hour pain and neuropathy from the surgery now. We just found out she has another cyst in the neck below her surgery site and degenerative disc causing the neuropathy. Along with that, she has constant lumbar pain because one of her vertebra is crooked and touching two other vertebrae. We don’t want to relive the horrific experience so I want to raise money for stem cell therapy. So many people found relief and healing from it, but it is so expensive. I want her to live without constant pain and give her life back.
