Stellenbosch, South Africa Fund

I am currently in my second year at the University of Georgia studying Environmental Engineering with a minor in Sociology.  Each year the University of Georgia selects 25 students from a pool of hundreds of applicants to participate in the four-week long Stellenbosch University Study Abroad program in South Africa.  I am proud to have been accepted into the 2015 program which takes place from May 9 through June 10.

While in South Africa, I will be attending Stellenbosch University to take two courses, South African Society and Politics of Development.  I will have the opportunity to interact with South African university students by living on campus.  I will also be participating in a service-learning project in the nearby communities of Kayamandi and Lynedoch where I will volunteer with an after-school program for children between the ages of 5 and 14.

This is an incredible opportunity to see and explore a different part of the world.  I am looking forward to experiencing a new culture, learning in a new academic environment, and experiencing all that the South African people have to offer.
My goal is to raise $7000 for both the airfare and program fees.  The deadline for my fundraising is April 30, 2015.
