Stella The Pup

I’m not a person to ever do something like this for ourselves, but Stella’s vet bills (not to mention, whatever insurance doesn’t pay of Kyle’s) are piling up and we could really use your help.  We want to continue making sure Stella is as comfortable as possible throughout this process and adjusts well to life on 3 legs.  We love you all so much, thank you so much for your outpouring of love throughout this ordeal.

For anyone who hasn’t been following our story, on the morning of February 27th, Kyle let the dogs out in the backyard.  We have a white vinyl fence all around our backyard.  Our next door neighbors have two pit bulls.  There’s a gap under the fence between the two yards that Stella peeked under.  The neighbors’ dogs were in their backyard and one of them grabbed Stella by her paw and tried to draw her to their side of the fence.  He got her about halfway under when Kyle intervened by bear hugging her “big spoon” style.  In doing so, he suffered a severe bite to his face and several on his hands.  He has 14 stitches on the side of his face, and about 7 or 8 puncture/teeth wounds in his hands (with one of them stitched because tendon was exposed).  Stella’s entire paw was basically mauled.  It’s mangled down to the bone.  Three of her pup toes are held only by skin and she has no feeling in them.  The vet has told us that at this point, with the extent of her injury being so severe, the best option may be to amputate.  She said amputation in situations like this is easier on the dog and less traumatic for them throughout the healing process.  We are beside ourselves and so heartbroken that our sweet Stella is going through this.
