Stella and Family’s Healing and Recovery

Hello family and friends,

I am Kelsey Reed and am starting a fundraiser for my niece Stella Sykes and family (Ashley, David, and Lila).

On Tuesday night, my niece Stella was involved in a very serious accident where she was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle. Stella was pulled from under the vehicle and was immediately transported to the Stollery children’s hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. Stella sustained many internal and external injuries to her body, and will be staying at the Stollery for the foreseeable future. Stella is currently awake and speaking; however, her long road to healing and recovery is just beginning.

I am creating this fundraiser to help support Stella and her family while navigating the challenging weeks and months ahead. The funds raised will be used for: the ongoing physiotherapy and rehabilitation that will be required once’s her injuries have healed, counselling for the entire family (including the other children who were witnesses) to process the trauma of the accident, and for her parents to be able to to take the time off to be with her while she is in the hospital and provide the extensive support she will need when she returns home.

I think anyone who knows are family knows we are very close and this has been devastating for us all. As many of you do, we love Stella and we want to provide her the best opportunities to have a full recovery. I truly believe in the power of community.
