Steffan, Emily, and baby Daria

Hello. My name is Kristin and I am fundraising for my brother-in-law Steffan Davis, his fiance Emily, and their new baby daughter Daria. Daria Carrie Davis entered the world on June 15, 2023 and is Steffan and Emily's first baby! Daria was born weighing 9 lbs, 7 ounces and both parents were smitten from the start. On the second day after her birth, despite how big she was, Daria wasn't passing the oxygen test. Daria had to be taken by ambulance from the Virginia, MN hospital she was born at to a hospital in Duluth for an electrocardiogram. This test revealed she had a coarctation of the aorta, which is the narrowing of the heart's main vein, which delivers oxygen to the lower extremeties of the body, along with a ventricular septal defect (less imediately concerning). Left untreated, her condition would be fatal. Daria then traveled by helicopter from Duluth to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, with Daria's parents chasing her travels by car once Emily was discharged after an emergency c-section.

Steffan, Emily, and Daria are now all settled in at Children's, living in a hospital room as they wait for surgery. Daria's first heart surgery is scheduled for June 26, 2023. She will likely also need future heart surgeries to deal with the less concerning ventricular septal defect.

Both Steffan and Emily were ecstatic to become parents and both cried when they were able to meet Daria for the first time. She is the cutest little peanut, and is showing already how brave and courageous she is.

Steffan and Emily are currently staying with Daria through all of this in Minneapolis; however, their home is in International Falls. They have been temporarily displaced and have incurred extensive unplanned costs for gas, food, basic necessities as they have gone from one hospital to the next hospital and then to their currrent hospital (without being able stop at home) and extra medical costs.
