Stefan Harvey Ghelli

On May 4, 2018 Stefan had a tragic and unexpected fall that left him critically injured and fighting for his life.  Miraculously and against unfavorable odds he is now out of critical condition and on the road to recovery.

What we know today.
Stefan’s injury has left him with a CSI (cervical spinal injury).  Once the medics arrived they brought him to Framingham Hospital.  The doctors there assessed him and because of the extent of his injuries had him immediately transferred to Beth Israel in Boston.  The same day he underwent an extensive long surgery to stabilize his spine to prevent any further injury and reduce pressure which will allow him to start to heal.

As of today, Stefan has no feeling or movement from his chest down.  Thankfully he does have the full use of his arms.  Unfortunately, he does not have the full use of his hands but we are confident that with hard-work, therapy and lots of determination that Stefan will regain the full use of his hands. When Stefan is medically cleared from Beth Israel hospital, he will be transferred to Spaulding rehabilitation where he will undergo intensive physical and occupational therapy.

Stefan’s future looks different today than it did just one month ago.  Stefan was working at a hands-on job requiring dexterity and fine motor coordination. Unfortunately, because of the extent of his injury he will be unable to do this kind of job in the future.

Stefan’s focus now is to learn how to lead as much of an independent life as physically possible. He’s going to need many types of assistive devices that his insurance company simply will not cover. Our goal here is to raise as much as possible to help him cover some of these costs as Stefan is working towards his recovery and future.

It goes without saying that this is incredibly shocking and emotionally overwhelming time for all of Stefan’s family and friends. This page will be used as a way to communicate any updates and progress we are all praying for.

Anyone who has ever come in contact with Stefan over his 24 years of life knows how incredible he is with an infectious smile and a giant charismatic personality. Despite this devastating news Stefan has kept his great sense of humor. He has the support and love of his family, the strength of mind and an unyielding determination to work through the challenges he has ahead of him.
