Steel and Wheels for Chuck Manns
My name is Kelly Beliveau and I’m trying to raise money for a more handicap accessible vehicle for my dad. If anyone deserves a break...which doesn’t include a body part or an organ, it’s this guy right here.
His most recent procedures have been a quadruple bypass, which resulted in an infection and broken sternum, which resulted in a 2nd operation, where they were unable to close his chest, leaving him with a wound vac, and another operation to close his close his chest. He was in the hospital/rehab for over a month. He was released, and sent home with the worlds best “nurse”, my mom, a home health nurse, occupational therapy, and physical therapy at home. He actually ended back up in the hospital for a week after he was home for a week. His chest was filled with fluid. They had to insert another tube, to help drain it, and he is now home again with that. He is unable to put any weight on his chest or arms for 6 weeks, which is a huge struggle, as he has been on a walker for many months, due to a failed hip replacement. The hip is not in the socket, due to infection.
He was scheduled for a hip removal on August 10. Just a few days shy of that, he received the news that his stress test wasn’t good enough for him to receive the surgery, without an angiogram. He went for the angiogram and got the unfortunate news that open heart was needed. He has had several heart procedures and stents over the years, as he was told he wasn’t a candidate for open heart due to complications from radiation he received as a child battling Hodgkins Lymphoma. This time, no wasn’t an option. He was unable to walk, and the only way to have this surgery done, was to go through with the open heart. The hip surgery would be his 4th, and they would actually only be removing the hip, placing in a spacer with antibiotic, and leave him wheelchair bound for several weeks, retest for infection, and if negative, do another surgery to replace the missing hip. We are still waiting on both of these procedures as he is recovering from a 1% chance of his sternum breaking, breaking the hardware, losing the left side of his breastbone, and having to have his chest and arm muscles removed and replaced, to stretch across to the opposite sides of his body. This has been a long road, and will continue to be a long road. His left side is week due to partial paralysis from a head injury from a car accident when he was 22, after being married 2 short years with a 5 month old daughter. He wasn’t supposed to live, or ever be able to walk again if he did. He continues to survive all odds, with the most positive attitude I have ever seen in anyone. He continues to give all the Glory to God and the power of prayer and miracles.
As he has needed more intense and invasive surgeries, he’s unable to use his body, as he should, which is also not allowing him to use handles or anything to get out of the car. Their car is a wrecked, over 200,000 mile impala. With the endless appointments, surgeries and follow ups in Chicago, this car isn’t going to last much longer. They need something more reliable, and easier to use.
There are far more medical issues, beyond what’s pointed out here. This is just the most recent. This has been my parents life forever. My dads since he was a child, and my moms since she met him. ❤️
The medical bills they will start raking in will be astronomical, so anything given beyond what is needed for that, will be going towards any bills.
Our entire family appreciates anything you may be able to give, even if it’s only prayers and well wishes. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity, during such trying times for our family.
