#StayStrongScarlett
Friends, family and all those who are rooting for Scarlett,
Thank you all for your kind words and offers of support as we navigate these very difficult days caring for Scarlett. Everyone’s love and friendship is deeply felt, and our family is incredibly grateful to have you in our lives rooting on our sweet girl from near and far.
Scarlett developed HUS from E. Coli 0157. HUS is a rare but serious disease that affects the kidneys and blood clotting functions, destroying red blood cells.
Scarlett developed symptoms of dehydration and she was admitted to the ICU at our local hospital. Her condition deteriorated and her kidneys failed. She then had to be airlifted to Ochsner hospital in New Orleans. She was admitted to the PICU on Monday, June 13 and experienced a number of unexpected complications including heart failure. She coded and the doctors and nurses performed CPR for over 2 hours. They were able to save her life. Scarlett is receiving blood transfusions and has been on life support since Tuesday morning.
John, Brenna and the family are spending all of their time by Scarlett’s bedside at the Ochsner Main PICU where the doctors and nurses have been nothing short of phenomenal in their efforts to relentlessly fight for our baby girl. The family is rotating shifts 24/7 to stay by her side and doing their best to support each other.
We appreciate everyone’s heartfelt desire to help at this incredibly difficult time. We have no idea where this journey will take us, but only pray we continue to make baby steps in the right direction for as long as it takes. We will not give up.
Please continue to send us your positive energy and prayers. Thank you all so much for your love and support. #StayStrongScarlett
We will be posting her journey on Facebook
