My name is Toby. I have a beautiful wife, Jaclyn, who has been fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) since March. Her first inpatient chemo regimen didn't completely eradicate the leukemia, so she had to go back for another, shorter, inpatient chemo stay in early June. After she was discharged, her health took a rather drastic and quick downturn within 10 days. On the evening of June 20th, while staying in the hospital because of a recently placed NG tube, Jackie had a seizure followed by cardiac arrest. She had to be flown to Indianapolis, which is about 90 miles away from where we live. Up to this point, I've been able to at least stay in the waiting room at night to stay close. She is getting to a point where she will be transferred to a rehab facility further away from our home. This facility will not allow me to stay in her room or their waiting room overnight. It's likely that she could be there for months. There is a "Family House" close to the facility that she'll be going to, but they have a small daily rate to have a room there. While it's better than a hotel rate, it's still not something I can squeeze into our family's budget for more than a few days' worth of staying. I can't just leave her there, almost 2 hours away from home, with no one to tell her story and advocate for her ongoing care. She already fell through the cracks in the numerous transfers between facilities, so I can't let that happen again. I think that's how she ended up in this situation.
Thanks for listening to a small bit of our story. Anything donated is certainly appreciated beyond what any words could accurately describe.
