Staying Afloat_Post-Surgery

Hi friends/fam.

As some of you know, I experienced an injury in November whilst performing. My leg locked at a 90° angle without any warning. It has taken 7hrs in urgent care and three additional doctor's visits (over two months) to get official word of what happened. I've torn my meniscus in my left knee. I've just had surgery and now am in the midst of the healing process. That will be followed by PT.

Had my surgery this week (Monday). There were two ways it could have gone. Either they'd be able to fully stitch the remainders of my meniscus back together (6 weeks off my feet), or they'd just remove part if it and clean up the area if it couldn't be stitched. The second option was the viable one. They cleaned up the area and it's gonna be my work in PT that will really decide how I heal/regain mobility.

At first I thought I'd be able to bounce back into the ring immediately like I did when I first got injured. But with the type of injury I had, it became clear that I could maneuver on it (braced) and it wasn't going to get any worse. Now that I've had surgery, I have to trend more carefully to allow myself this best opportunity at healing/recovery. But it wasn't until I took off my bandage and saw the size of my knee that I realized...this is gonna take time. I have to give it its due. If I rush back too quickly, I could further hinder myself. And as a performer/entertainer, my body IS my instrument.

All of this to say that I'm in a position where I have to ask for more help. I've had to extend/expand the amount of my gofundme. I want to stress JUST HOW GRATEFUL I am to EVERYONE who has given and EVERYTHING my friends/family have done for me thus far. I underestimated how long I'd need to not work. I underestimated the amount of funds that would get me through. And I overestimated my ability to simply "walk it off" and return to a self-sufficient existence.

Though it's not how I'd like things to be (I've dragged all week in writing this post), it IS how things are. It be like that sometimes. I'd rather take another blow to the ego than to wait end up in a more perilous position.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in. My knee IS making progress. I have my follow-up on the 15th. From there I'll have a better timeline of what PT/my return might look like. But I have to do this right. My goal is to hopefully be able to be fully back in performance mode by mid-late April. And any help is (as always) greatly appreciated! Even a share helps.
