Staying Afloat After Layoff: 2 Months of Support

My name is Tyler, and I’m reaching out as a parent working to keep life stable for my 7-year-old daughter, Ahayah, as we navigate a challenging transition. After being laid off last week from my remote administrative assistant job at a global nonprofit, I’m now focused on finding new work and keeping us afloat for the next two - three months. I had only started this position in January, and it allowed me to balance work and caring for my daughter, who means everything to me. Losing this job so suddenly has put our new home and stability at risk, just two months after finally moving into our own apartment—a place I worked so hard to secure for us.

My priority is to maintain a safe and healthy environment for Ahayah while I actively search for new opportunities in my field and consider returning to teaching dance. Rent, utilities, phone bills, and other essentials are piling up, along with credit and student loan debt, child care, and emergencies. My daughter has asthma, so keeping her insured and healthy is a top priority. I need to keep up with car payments and insurance so I can continue searching for work and caring for her. The job market is the slowest it’s been in over a decade, but I am determined to get back on my feet. I have full custody of Ahayah and am her primary caretaker. She’s my best friend, and seeing her so happy in her own room for the first time made all the hard work worth it. Any support during this transition will help us stay afloat, cover basic needs, and give Ahayah the stability she deserves while I work toward our next chapter.
