Stay Strong Vargo Family

Please help the Vargo family stay strong...

 

Last June, their dad, Ray Vargo, had an endoscopy done that revealed a neuroendocrine tumor. This lead to many more tests that determined the tumor was malignant and he was given the diagnosis of stage 4 neuroendocrine cancer. Ray started his first chemo treatment on July 24, 2023 and has been on a journey receiving bi-weekly treatments since then at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center East. Unfortunately, he’s been in more and more pain and last week received a final Hail Mary chemo treatment. Ray has been in the hospital since with the hopes to come home and live his final months surrounded by his family. They had a goal to see the beach together one more time. Unfortunately, plans changed this morning and he is now in hospice care at UPMC East.

 

Ray, his wife Chris and their four kids Nicholas, Luke, Joshua and Mary are all praying and trying to stay positive. If you know Ray, you know he’s been trying to keep life as normal as possible to support his family and especially his kids in all of their activities and events. He has also been trying to keep working as much as possible since his diagnosis because he truly enjoys the work he does and everyone he works with at the University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center.
