Stay Gold -The Ingrid Toro Gale Scholarship
Donation protected
This Go Fund me is to collect funds in honor of my dearest daughter, Ingrid Cassandra Toro-Gale.
Ingrid was my husband and I's only child. She was born prematurely at 7 months and weighed 2 pounds and 4 ounces. Despite her premature birth, Ingrid grew up healthy. She was a joyful and loving girl who everyone wanted around. All who knew her gravitated towards her because of her positive attitude and enthusiasm. She dreamt of becoming an English teacher and therefore loved to read and write. Her favorite book was ‘The Outsiders’! Her perspective of life was a simple ‘Stay Gold!’, a phrase used commonly in the book. ‘Stay Gold,’ in context means to be true to yourself, innocent, uncorrupted, unblemished, etc. She lived her life just that way.
Ingrid lost her father in an unexpected car accident at the age of 16. Although that was a very sad and tragic time in her life, Ingrid stayed optimistic. She was surrounded by her family and friends and continued moving forward. In June of 2018, Ingrid graduated from North Rockland High School in which she was awarded three scholarships. In the fall of 2018, she began her journey to become an English teacher at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
Like most teenagers, she loved to go to the mall, hang out with friends, listening to music, etc. Her favorite genre of music was jazz and she was in love with anything Michael Jackson. Her favorite song was ‘Mia’ by Drake and Bad Bunny. She enjoyed watching shows like Riverdale, Stranger Things, and Chicago Fire. Ingrid even had the opportunity to go to Chicago and meet Sophia Bush (an actress she really looked up to). That summer she worked at Bath and Body Works in the Palisades Mall and Rockland County Social Services in Pomona, NY.
During Ingrid's first winter break from mercy College, she became very ill at home with the flu. On January 10, 2019, Ingrid woke up like any regular morning to take her dog, Rocky, out for a walk, but the unexpected happened. She suddenly collapsed on the living room floor; I immediately ran and dialed 911. The paramedics arrived at our home in Stony Point, NY and began to perform CPR on her. Shortly after Ingrid was transported to Nyack Medical Center. While in the hospital she was taken to the ER and I had to wait the longest I have waited in my life. 45 minutes later a doctor came to see me and stated that Ingrid’s heart stopped beating and that they had done all that was possible but unfortunately, they couldn’t do anything else for her. After the autopsy was performed it was discovered that Ingrid had a pulmonary embolism, a condition in which one or more arteries in the lungs become blocked by one or more blood clots.
In Ingrid’s honor and memory, I would love to collect funds in order to award scholarships at North Rockland High School for graduating seniors who will pursue a career in education.
In the spring of 2019, I worked with my family and friends to raise funds and was able to award 2 scholarships of $500 each to 2 students.
In June of 2021, I awarded a scholarship to one senior graduate student at NRHS in the amount of $1000. The student attended SUNY Geneseo Fall of 2021.
I thank you in advance for your donation!
Sincerely Thankful,
Johana Gale
