LOCAL FIREFIGHTER BATTLES THIRD ROUND OF CANCER
Isaac McCurdy 32
Statesville NC Firefighter
Father and Husband
In recent years studies upon studies have shown just how dangerous firefighting can be. Not only because the "Orange Devil" might get you but an invisible enemy. Cancer! Firefighters are nine times more likely to get cancer and 14 times more likely to die from cancer says the CDC National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety.
Statesville Firefighter Isaac Mccurdy 32, is now fighting his third round of cancer. Issac joined the fire service as a Stony Point volunteer firefighter in 2009 and was quickly hired by Statesville Fire Department.
In the the fall of 2015 Isaac was diagnosed with testicular cancer, presumably as a result of his career as a firefighter. In 2019 Isaac underwent surgery for the second time to rid his body of cancer.
After surgery and healing Isaac was able to return to his job at Firehouse # 1 in Statesville. Unfortunately, Isaac wasn't going to be in the firehouse long.
Last week Isaac went for normal blood work. The doctors called him later that week asking him to come back for a follow up. That's when Isaac was given the devastating news the cancer had returned. Cancer had spread to his lymph nodes and also a few spots on his lungs.
Isaac starts a 12 week battle with chemotherapy on September 14th. Isaac is a young man with a wife and two small children.
Isaac the Firewire wishes you all the best with your upcoming treatment. I will be saying a prayer for you daily. Now kick this cancers ass and get back in the firehouse! You have to solve the world's problems from the ever famous firehouse kitchen table.
Kind words from Iredell Firewire
