Hi, my name is Maureen, and I need help.

I was evicted on May 1 and am now facing homelessness. I had no safe or affordable housing options available, and I was forced to leave with very little. Right now, I am trying to secure a stable place to live for myself and my dog so I can begin to rebuild.

Over the past four months, a series of devastating events led to a serious decline in my mental health. I live with complex PTSD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and chronic pain, and I have been trying to recover with very limited support. The impact of prolonged emotional and psychological harm has deeply affected my sense of safety and stability—but I am still trying to move forward, one step at a time.

I am hoping to relocate to Saskatoon, where there are better supports available to me. However, my income places me in deep poverty, and I have been unable to find affordable, pet-friendly housing. I am on waiting lists, but time has run out.

My dog, Cooper, is my only constant companion and a vital source of emotional support. Most shelters do not allow pets, and losing him is not something I can bear. Staying together is essential to my ability to cope and move forward.

Asking for help is not something that comes easily to me. I have always been independent and self-reliant. But right now, I cannot do this alone. I am not asking for pity—only for the chance to stabilize, find a modest place to live, and begin again.

After 27 years working in health care, I now find myself facing the reality of aging in poverty. I will begin receiving a modest pension of approximately $900 per month in August. Despite a lifetime of work, I do not have stable housing or financial security.

I am also a mother who has experienced profound loss. More than anything, I want my children to know that I am safe—that I am not suffering—so they can have peace in their own lives.

Right now, I am overwhelmed, but I am still holding onto hope that, with some support, I can stabilize and move forward.
