Starting Over Again - Chris and Lori

Hi Y’all, my name is Debi Corbett from Alabama.

I have several friends in Florida who came through Hurricane Ian. Some of them had some damage to roofs. Some of them had damage to cars and their home. Chris and Lori who lived on Sanibel Island lost everything. Two days ago they were able to go to Sanibel Island to see the house. The storm surge and flooding has ruined everything. They were both self employed. Now they are both out of a job. One of their sweet friends gave them a place to stay for now, about an hour from Sanibel.

I kept asking myself what could I do to help my dear friends that have nothing left. I believe God led me to the “Go Fund Me” plan. My only obstacle was getting their permission. Both of these people have huge hearts and would rather be helping others than asking for help. It was hard to convince them to at least let me try.

People can give $1.00 or $5.00’s. It all adds up. Maybe we can help them buy groceries, gas, or clothing. When you’ve lost everything, any donation helps them to start over again. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Chris and I evacuated on Tuesday, Sept. 28th with our cat and not much else. We got out before the hurricane touched down. We are incredibly grateful that we evacuated and are safe and alive.

The devastation to Sanibel Island and to our home is hard to describe. The inside of our home is a total loss. We had between 4-5' of storm surge in our house. We had a ground floor home so everything was destroyed. The smell is awful from the muck that is covering the floor and our belongings.

We had a thriving dog walking & pet sitting business and that is gone. At least for now.

Honestly, we have no idea what will happen. There is a good chance we won't be able to go back to Sanibel. We're just taking it one day at a time. It's extremely difficult to ask for financial help but we seem to keep getting direction to do just that so here we are.
