Starting my Drumming Dream at Music College (ACM - 1st Year)

Hi my name is Joe.

I am a 16 year old drummer from Wiltshire who is trying to plan ahead for the next stage of my education in September with A Levels. The problem I am having is that so many of the schools in my area are not providing music as an option so this leaves me with no option but to look further afield.

My dream is to be a professional touring / session drummer. Back in September I was selected to perform at The UK Drum Show in Liverpool and it was at this event, and talking to people there, that I realised I wanted to be around similar minded musicians to myself. I recently passed my Grade 8 examination with distinction and practice several times a day to improve my playing and appreciation of music. I document my drum journey on my Instagram account

I have found a college that I would really like to attend but it involves a commute of 1hr 45mins each day to get there and the college, ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music) in Guildford. I have auditioned and have happily been accepted but now I have to be able to fund the transport and everyday costs back and forth.

Frank Turner said the other week sometimes you just have to take a leap in life and just go for it…so that’s what I’m doing. You only live once and if you don’t ask you never… well…you never know!

Music is my passion, my well-being, my life and hopefully my career when I am older and I am desperate to make it work at ACM. I am a grafter! I am not afraid of hard work and as I said I will happily get up extra early for the travelling to be somewhere where people feel the same way about music as I do but it's now making it happen.
