Start John on the right foot

After 16 years incarcerated, John Jackson is a free man! It should come as no surprise to anyone that John already is employed but will face a challenge in finding housing. The goal of this campaign is to help secure the downpayment and security deposit of a place that I expect will cost ~$1500 a month (2 months deposit = $3,000) and to provide him with some assistance in getting setup in his new life.
Since his own graduation back in 2007, John played an integral role in leading events on B Yard, but what's lesser known is how he went out of his way to ensure many of the participants stayed with the program, even when they themselves weren't ready to invest in themselves.
John went through a very stressful ordeal due to the most maddening bureaucratic failure I've ever heard of. He should have been released from California a free man, but instead was needlessly transported to Texas and held in a Texas county jail while we worked to secure his release and right this bureaucratic wrongs. All the while he was going through this ordeal that would have broken most people, he used most of his 15 minute calls with me to discuss edits to the new curriculum in development. He defines what it means to give back and I hope we can all show him our love and generosity.
