My name is Kelly Smith, and I want to make mead. I am currently enrolled at North Central Texas College in the Business Management program with my goal of obtaining my bachelor's within the next 2 years.
I am hoping to one day turn this into a business, however for the time being I am going to start small; making a gallon or two in my apartment. Starting with some homebrewed mead would help me gain practical experience with the process, and higher amounts of funding will allow me to more efficiently experiment with recipes (a batch would take around 1-2 months before bottling, and aging up to a few years).
My reusable instruments total around $130, and the ingredients are around $90 for a total of $240. Each multiple of $240 raised would mean another gallon of mead with a different recipe to see what works and what doesn't.
My plan is to utilize honey from my home state of Texas, and if this is successful as not just a product but as a commercial business I would like to use Texan ingredients as much as possible and run the business in the Dallas area.
