A local cafe, Darwin's, has recently announced the closing of its four locations in Cambridge, MA. We are a group of former employees who have gotten together with the dream of opening a worker-owned cooperative cafe. We met each other and learned about organizing while forming a union from scratch. We aspire to combine our love for good food and coffee with our goals of determining our own working conditions in a truly democratic manner.

Our current focus is on taking one of the former Darwin's spaces and operating a similar coffee and sandwich business. Funds would be used to cover securing a space, purchasing equipment, redecorating, appraisal, and legal services. We are matching up to $10,000. We have met with the Cooperative Fund of the Northeast, White Electric Coffee, and others, all of whom are as excited as we are about the potential of this.
