Hi, my name is Jonathan and in the picture is my dog Stark. Stark turned 2 this year and is a Bernese x Swiss Mountain dog. If you have ever met Stark you would know he is an extremely caring and lovable dog. A gentle giant, some say.

Recently we started to notice a change in his behaviour when it came to running and walking; it wasn't long after that he stopped running. We took him to the vet, where he was referred to a specialist. They discovered he had ruptured both of his CCLs in each of his back legs.
Unfortunately, they explained the weakness in his back legs that led to the ruptures are genetic. The surgery they suggested will enable Stark to live a happy life and no longer suffer his pain.
He can no longer run. And now no longer walk without showing signs of pain. He struggles to pee as he can't raise his leg and falls when trying to poop, as squatting is very painful. He cants even scratch himself.
Stark is the world to me; he is my best friend and greatest companion. He has joined my wife and me on many hikes across Canada. He even worked at the Capilano Suspension Bridge with me, where he would greet guests and children as they entered.
It is harder every day to watch him go through this pain he is facing and harder knowing I can't afford to help. The drugs he is taking is only helping him so much.
As I continue to reach out for support, I come here asking for anything that helps; every $ will go towards his medical expenses.
Canada West Veterinary Specialists & Critical Care Hospital (Vancouver) is where Stark is planning to have surgery. If you have any questions, please reach out to us. We would be happy to answer.
Thank you for taking the time to read Stark's story.
