Hello
My name is Em - in September last year the tiniest, sweetest bundle came to me from the lost dogs home shelter in Melbourne. We then road tripped and camped our way to the Byron Bay area where we had tumultous housemate experiences until we found a cheap granny flat of our own - cue Starburst runs on the beach any chance he can get.
On June 7th I was devastated when I was out for a run with Starburst and he veered off unexpectedly onto the highway just outside of Clunes NSW, I ran out with my headlamp on and screamed when a 4x4 barrelled him at 100-110km an hour. He was clipped and he ran down the road crying - with me chasing him and trying to slow down traffic. This elderley couple who had hit him turned their car around and said they hadn't seen me, or him standing in the middle of the road. They dropped us to the end of our street, where Starburst walked a few steps and collapsed, which led to me running down a winding road with him in my arms.
I took him to the vet, sobbing - not knowing what was wrong and why he couldn't stand. Since then he's been in a cast and it isn't going well - I was scammed out of $300 by a dodgy vet who told me I had to go and see him because "he was the best and had been a vet for 30 years" as he performed the exact same bandage removal done the day before and charged me for it again - I was lured back thinking he needed xrays, which I was told he didn't.
I've been quoted 3 - 4k for starbursts surgery, so far I've spent about 2k on bandage changes, xrays and antibiotics. I've been in and out of homelessness for many years and am STILL trying to get on top of my finances which is why I've started this go fund me. I have been given multiple different timeframes and dont even know if this splint and cast situation will even work - I've been in desperate talks with my workplace about bringing him in to support his recovery but they have declined. I have picked him up and driven him everywhere with me that I can but I know that surgery will give him the BEST chance of a good recovery and a great life.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Much love, Em and Staburst xxxx
