Help Star start over after a devastating fire

Hello community, friends and family. My name is Lana Swanson and I have started this go fund me for my landmate Star Liss, whose yurt they were living in burnt to the ground the evening of Nov. 10, 2024 in the Blewett area of Nelson BC. Thanks to the quick response of the people who were home, and to the community members of our offgrid land co-op, we were able to contain the fire to the yurt only, and save the surrounding forest and other homes. We are outside of fire protection, and fighting this devastating fire was very scary and traumatic for all of us involved.

Not only did Star lose all their possessions, they have also lost their destimulation, creative, beloved home space, a place they go to for home, where they feel wonderful, and the place they retreat to while on their current healing journey from a serious brain injury from a motor vehicle accident 1.5 years ago. Star is a compassionate, kind, loving human. They are a somatic movement facilitator and education assistant in the Nelson area at the various schools and are working so hard to heal their brain injury. We need help to resupply possessions lost, to help with getting ID's and important paperwork back, for trauma counselling, and for living support while they are forced to start all over again.

We are reaching out to our beloved communities, family and friends to aid this wonderful human in their time of great need. By working together we can make this unfortunate and very big weight less heavy for them at a time when they need community support, care, and love. Please give whatever you can, and if you can volunteer time for cleanup, help with paper documents, by giving counselling support, picking up items, etc. please reach out to me.
