Star Needs Your Help to Heal and Thrive

Hey folks. We’re asking the community to please help this sweet, old girl get healthy and happy.

Our fundraising goal may fluctuate as we continue to find out more from our vet and treat her as needed.

Any money leftover from her medical care will be donated to animal rescues in San Antonio.

On April 28, I found Star living in a field by our house. She looked tired, pregnant, and hungry. A couple of other nice folks and I started feeding her, but she needed medical care right away. Long story short, the San Antonio Animal Care Services (the pound) picked her up. ACS spayed her and aborted her puppies, but thankfully my parents opened their home to get her out of the sadness of the pound and foster her. Star would have been euthanized after 3 days otherwise.

Star is now safe and loved but unfortunately is heartworm-positive and currently sick with kennel cough. We also don’t know what other conditions she might have because fostering through ACS has many challenges.

ACS is underfunded and not able to give their foster dogs the best medical care. They can’t reimburse foster parents if foster animals are taken to clinics outside of ACS. In the meantime her heartworms aren’t going away fast enough, which is keeping her vulnerable to illness.

Bottom line: Star needs proper medical care and heartworm treatment to heal her quicker. Through all of her years of neglect, she is so loving and trusting of us. She is the absolute sweetest girl. She just needs a break.
