On Thursday, August 11, 2022 Stanton John Porter passed away peacefully at the age of 43.
Stanton has affected many lives while serving his country and community. He will be greatly missed. The outpouring of the community has been tremendous, and the Porter family is so appreciative.
So many have asked if they can donate money. Instead of flowers, money would be much appreciated. Funds will be used for memorial expenses and then set aside for Stanton's three-year-old's college fund.
Stanton was born April 26, 1979, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to David Stewart Porter and June Helgesen Porter. Stanton grew up in Kaysville, Utah and graduated from Davis High School in 1997.
Stanton served the people of Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 1998-2000.
In 2002 Stanton enlisted in the US Air Force. He served for many years on active duty, including a tour of duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was instrumental in the creation of a Joint Services training program for mental health at Sheppard Air Force Base, TX. He received many awards and accolades, including Airman of the Year at his first duty station in Ohio.
In 2014 he met his soulmate and the love of his life, Krystal. Five years later, he met the second love of his life when they were blessed with a beautiful baby girl. He spent every day as a devoted husband and father. Nothing was more important to Stanton than family, which was a big job because he made everyone feel like they were a part of his family.
Stanton was a hard worker, receiving his BS in nursing from Midwestern State University and later graduated from the University of Utah with his Doctorate of Nursing Practice in 2018. Stanton worked as an Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Primary Children's Wasatch Canyons Behavioral Health.
He made a big impact in his community, working in the Emergency Department at the University of Utah for several years. He has always had a passion for promoting wellness and health in the nursing profession. He was a certified Crisis Prevention Instructor whose mission was to provide non-violent crisis intervention to patients. In October 2016, Stanton received The Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
Stanton was an adventurer at heart. He had a wide range of hobbies, including sailing, woodworking, drumming, hiking, biking, running, kayaking, climbing, traveling and camping. He competed at the collegiate level on the road cycling team while attending Midwestern State University. He competed in dozens of races and marathons, including several Ironman Triathlons. He was also the proud drummer in the local band Brackish Creek.
He loved and cherished many things in his life, but most of all, his family. He loved nature, the mountains, his three daughters and exploring his Norwegian heritage.
He was loved and supported by his sweet wife Krystal and daughter Eleanor Ingrid. His immediate family included his father, David (Melani) Porter, mother, June (Dave) Kunz, Sam (Julie) Porter, Heidi (Ken) Robb, Buck (Sandra) Porter, Sandi (Fred) Seabury, his in-laws Darcy Teena Allan, Devin (Jessica) Allan, Trevor (Jessica) Allan, and as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
