Stand with John In His Fight Against TB
Donation protected
Hi. My name is Ansley, and I’m a documentary filmmaker. In 2018, alongside my friends Corey and John, I created Like We Don’t Exist —a film highlighting the world's longest ongoing civil war and the military genocide against ethnic minorities in Myanmar.
John has tirelessly championed the Karenni people's plight to the global stage. His advocacy and representation have brought international attention to their fight for freedom.
Now, John is the one in need of assistance.
Following the recent turmoil in Myanmar, John contracted intestinal tuberculosis. Unaware, he visited Thailand and was rushed to the ER with severe abdominal pain, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Unfortunately, the first surgery didn’t resolve his issues, necessitating a second operation in late summer 2023. The costs are beyond John’s means, and without payment, the hospital will be forced to involve the authorities, risking his deportation.
John’s commitment is to return to Myanmar and to reunite with his family. Yet, with his stitches still in place and more post-op care required, traveling back now is perilously premature.
Your donation can make a tangible difference in John’s recovery and life.
We aim to cover his hospital expenses, medications, medical supplies, and any transport or lodging needed for ongoing treatment.
Your generosity means more than just financial aid; it’s a lifeline for John and a stand with the Karenni people.
Thank you for your empathy and support.
