#StandWithJess Hair Donation
Donation protected
Brace yourselves, friends, I will be donating 8 inches of my hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign if we reach a $5000 goal for my friend Jessica Shaw Douglas. Here is why....
My hair has been my God given identifier for most of my
life. It was awarded "best hair" in high school and friends, family and mere acquaintences commonly say, "I wish you could just take some of your hair off and give it to me." When my friend, Jessica, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer I realized that I could actually give my hair to someone in need and raise money for the Shaw/Douglas family in the process.
I am asking you to donate to this fund for Jessica and I will donate 8 inches of my hair in Jessica's name.
More about Jessica Shaw Douglas....
A little more than two years ago, Jessica Shaw (30) became Jessica Douglas, marrying the love of her life, Nathan. Each one was made for the other - they are two of the best, most faith-filled people anyone could ever meet. She is one of those people that everyone claims as their best friend.
Around the time of their wedding, Jessica became increasingly aware of a nagging pain in her right hip. After consulting with a doctor at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN, the decision was made to remove a cyst that had begun growing near her hip joint. A biopsy was performed, and everything was cleared.
One year later, in October of 2015, Jessica found herself undergoing another surgery, this time a full hip replacement due to the recurrence of the cyst. Once again, Jessica was given a clean bill of health and life started to get back to normal. That was until earlier this year...
Jessica's recovery began to slow, and then started to regress. By September, the tumor had reoccured and grown dramatically in size, destroying much of her femur. Biopsy results were inconclusive and Vanderbilt decided to refer the couple to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.
After a number of tests and still ambiguous results, Jessica and Nathan made the very difficult decision to amputate her right leg in order to keep the tumor from spreading. After analyzing the tumor, oncologists have determined the tumor is a high grade bone sarcoma, an extremely rare and fast-growing bone cancer.
Jessica and Nathan are committed to winning this battle, but face a long road. Doctors have recommended more than a dozen rounds of chemotheraphy, all to be performed in Houston over the course of the next year.
This couple obviously faces enormous financial challenges due to the medical expenses already incurred, the steep costs associated with getting Jessica a prosthesis and now the cancer fight ahead, which will likely now involve a great deal of travel and/or temporary housing. Jessica will also be out of work during this time, as well.
We are asking for all of those who love Jessica to pray for healing and to contribute to her recovery.
