Support Our Standing Rock Trip
Our names are Phil Santos and Nicola Walters. We are students at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California.

Since October 20th, we have been in North Dakota to stand in solidarity with water protectors. We have extended our trip by a week and a half to make this all possible. On Thursday, our camp was attacked in a raid by hundreds of national guard, North Dakota and surrounding states' law enforcement. We lost our tent, our sleeping pads, blankets, headlamps, and other camping gear. We had our car impounded, and we were arrested. We served 2-3 nights in jail. 2 for me, 3 for Phil. 

The large majority of the 150 people arrested were each charged on 3 counts: 2 misdemeanors and 1 felony. The felony was for conspiracy to endanger by fire - I can only presume was due to a tire fire earlier in the day. Many people did not recieve their items back from North Dakota law enforcement, because they were drastically underprepared to handle the scale of arrests made. Phil still has not received his car keys, camera, or compass. 

We are reaching out to friends, family, and community to aid us in our travels as we return home and replace our stolen belongings. Thank you for all of your assistance during this time. This is a very important moment in our nation's history and we are overwhelmed by the support we have recieved.
