On October 17, 2026, tragedy struck during a Canadian Armed Forces training exercise at CFB Wainwright, Alberta. The devastating incident claimed the lives of four Canadian soldiers and left many others injured.

Among those injured was my good friend, Trevor Flegel, who was critically injured and suffered severe burns covering approximately 50% of his body. Trevor is currently receiving medical care in Edmonton. He has already undergone his first extensive surgery, with a long and challenging road to recovery ahead of him.

A Little About Trevor and Our Friendship

My name is Kyle Germuth, and I've had the privilege of knowing Trevor for the better part of a decade. I first got to know his brother Tyler when we worked together at my dad's shop around 2015. Then, in 2020, I had the absolute pleasure of working alongside Trevor at D&J Container Services.

Over the years, what started as friendships through work grew into something much more. From heading out on the side-by-sides, spending days at Lakelse Lake, or getting out on the ocean on the jet skis, I've shared countless great memories with Trevor and Tyler. They're both people I've come to know and care about deeply, and I'm incredibly grateful for the friendships we've built over the years.

When I look back at our adventures, I think of the laughs, the good times, and that cheeky smile Trevor always seems to have when we're out enjoying ourselves.

Seeing Trevor and his family going through something like this is heartbreaking. Nobody ever expects something so devastating to happen to someone they know and care about. While there's nothing I can do to change what happened, I want to do whatever I can to make the road ahead a little easier for Trevor and his loved ones.

Why I'm Starting This Fundraiser

With Trevor receiving treatment in Edmonton, away from home, his family is facing the emotional challenges of his critical injuries alongside the financial uncertainty of what could be a lengthy recovery.

While the Canadian Armed Forces will provide certain supports, there will be additional expenses and unforeseen challenges in the weeks and months ahead. At this time, the family does not have complete clarity on which expenses will continue to be covered.

Travel, accommodations, meals, time away from work, and everyday necessities can quickly add up. Beyond these immediate expenses, there are also the many unknowns that come with Trevor's recovery and any longer-term needs he may have.

My goal is simple: to help ease the financial burden on Trevor and his family so they can focus on what matters most — his recovery and being there for one another.

Donations will help support expenses that are not otherwise covered, including:

  • Travel expenses for family members travelling to and from Edmonton
  • Accommodations so loved ones can remain close to Trevor
  • Meals and everyday living expenses while away from home
  • Financial strain associated with time away from work
  • Trevor's ongoing recovery and potential longer-term needs
  • Other unforeseen expenses that may arise throughout this journey

I want to help give Trevor and his family one less thing to worry about during an already overwhelming time. Being surrounded by the people who love and care about him is incredibly important, and I hope that together, we can help make that possible for as long as he needs them.

Coming Together for Trevor

The tragedy at CFB Wainwright has affected many families, friends, and communities across Canada. My heart goes out to the families of the four soldiers who lost their lives, as well as everyone injured and impacted by this devastating event.

While we cannot undo what happened, we can show those affected that they are not facing the road ahead alone. Whether you've known Trevor for years, served alongside him, worked with him, crossed paths with him in the community, or simply want to lend a helping hand, your support would mean so much.

Every donation, regardless of the amount, will help provide Trevor and his family with some financial peace of mind as they navigate the long road ahead.

If you're unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with friends, family, coworkers, and the wider community is just as appreciated. To everyone who has reached out, offered support, or kept Trevor and the other affected families in their thoughts, thank you.

Trevor has a long road ahead of him, but he doesn't have to face it alone.

Let's come together and show Trevor and his family just how many people are standing behind them.

Fundraiser Transparency & Donations

This fundraiser is being organized by me, Kyle Germuth, as a personal initiative in support of Trevor and his family.

All GoFundMe donations will be directed to a member of Trevor's family, who will manage the funds on behalf of the family. These funds will help with expenses throughout Trevor's recovery, including any longer-term needs that may arise.

Should funds remain after Trevor's recovery and any ongoing needs have been addressed, the family has expressed an interest in donating the remaining amount to a cause supporting veterans, burn survivors, or healthcare.

This is an independently organized fundraiser and is not affiliated with or administered by the Canadian Armed Forces.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
