A Husband, Father, and Hero Facing Stage 4 Cancer
On April 17, 2025 the stable, predictive, reliable life of Travis, Kristin, Carter and Jackson Stewart was turned upside down when Travis was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal cancer extensively involving his liver. Travis was admitted into Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, AB with the intention of doing surgery. Before that could be done, he needed to have a CT scan and an MRI. The CT scan was done on Wednesday April 23rd.
After a day of waiting for results the Dr came into Travis' hospital room. He sat down beside Travis on the bed. With the clarity and precision of a surgeon he said the words nobody was prepared to hear. "Stage 4 Colon Cancer metastasized extensively to your liver." The air left the room and time stood still.
"Can you remove it?"
"No."
"Is a transplant possible?"
"No, I’m so sorry."
The doctor went over treatment options and promised to get Travis into the cancer center as soon as possible.
On May 9th, Travis met with the oncologist at the Arthur Child Cancer Center in Calgary. Travis will start chemotherapy on May 14th. The goal is to shrink the tumors in the liver enough to proceed with surgery.
Of course, regular life doesn't care if you have been punched in the gut by a cancer diagnosis. Life continues and obligations must be met. As Travis begins his journey through treatment, he faces the difficult reality that he won’t be able to return to work - resulting in a significant loss of income. Disability payments do not replace income dollar for dollar - not even close.
Travis and Kristin know the value of family and community. They sincerely appreciate the people who have reached out to offer prayers, comfort, and encouragement. Travis and Kristin are always willing to help others. Travis has always put others before himself - so much so that he gave his Mom one of his own kidneys when hers failed. It is with great humility that we are establishing this GoFundMe in hopes of raising funds to ease the burdens imposed by this horrific life event. Any financial gifts are so appreciated. Your prayers for healing, your encouragement and support are received with so much gratitude. Thank-you.
