Todds Cancer Journey began with some lung issues that he had been putting off for a while because he is self employed which means he is self insured with a very high deductible. The pain got to a point he couldn't tolerate anymore so he went in to get checked out. Imaging showed a mass, and after a biopsy, it was confirmed to be cancer.

Surgery was scheduled shortly after, with the initial plan to remove the mass by removing part of his lung.

Todd went in for surgery to remove part of his lung. However, during the procedure, doctors noticed that the cancer had already spread to the surrounding tissues. Because of this, they were unable to remove it completely and instead left a 3 cm tumor in the affected lung. They did, however, remove five nearby lymph nodes to test the cancer type and determine how aggressive it is, so they could create a treatment plan going forward.

Todd was diagnosed with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), Stage 3B.

Non-small cell lung cancer accounts for approximately 80–85% of lung cancer cases, making it the most common type. While the cancer has not spread to other organs, it has grown from the airway into surrounding lung tissues. The five lymph nodes that were removed came back clear, which is encouraging and gives him a fighting chance, although it will still be a difficult battle.

The next step was to meet with an oncologist to determine the most aggressive treatment plan possible. They decided that high-dose chemotherapy followed by radiation therapy would be the best course of action.

Todd started high-dose chemotherapy followed by daily radiation treatments for five days straight. After a short break, he will repeat this cycle again.

Todd is a wonderful human being. He has always been the one to lighten the mood in any heavy room, loves to make people laugh, and makes others feel valued and loved. He has helped so many people throughout his life and continues to do so whenever he can. However, the financial burden he is facing right now is overwhelming.

He had to pay out of pocket for the biopsy, made a large payment for surgery to remove part of his lung, and now must cover chemotherapy and radiation treatments, with insurance covering very little. He has used up his savings and is struggling to manage monthly expenses because he is unable to work at this time. Todd has always worked hard and managed his finances responsibly, but now finds himself in a very difficult situation.
