Help Timothy Toler—Philadelphia’s Paula Deen-White—recover

Some people simply enter a room. Timothy Toler lights it up.

Many Philadelphians know Timothy as Paula Deen-White: a glamorous, joyful, larger-than-life drag performer who has spent years entertaining our community and generously volunteering their time and talent to support local nonprofits, fundraisers, and causes. Others know Timothy as a dear friend, a devoted flight attendant, and someone who consistently shows up for the people around them.

Now, Timothy needs our community to show up for them.

Late at night on July 13, after spending nearly 12 days bedridden at home, Timothy woke up in intense and excruciating pain coming from nearly every joint in their body. They realized that they were unable to move or catch their breath and had to call 911 for first responders to be dispatched. They were admitted to the hospital that same night and are still being evaluated to determine the cause.

The pain and swelling have left Timothy unable to walk or properly use their hands. Their wrists are nearly immovable, and they are currently bedridden. At this time, neither Timothy nor their doctors can say how long their hospitalization and recovery will last.

Both of Timothy’s professions depend on their physical mobility. As a flight attendant, they must be able to walk, lift, travel, and assist passengers during emergencies. As Paula Deen-White, they bring their entire body, spirit, humor, and energy to the stage. Right now, Timothy is unable to fly, perform, or earn the income they need to support themselves.

The uncertainty is frightening. Their regular bills have not stopped, and the expenses connected to hospitalization, treatment, transportation, food, medications, rehabilitation, and an extended period without income will continue to grow.

For years, Timothy has donated performances, volunteered their time, and used Paula’s platform to help organizations and individuals throughout Philadelphia. They have brought laughter to crowded rooms, glamour to countless stages, and generosity to causes that needed a champion. Behind the costumes, wigs, and sparkling jewelry is a deeply caring person who has always believed in giving back.

It is now our turn to give some of that love back to them.

Funds raised will help Timothy remain housed and financially stable while covering essential living expenses, medical costs, prescriptions, transportation, recovery needs, and the income they are losing while physically unable to work.
