Standing with the Yockeys: Medical and Recovery Aid

We are creating this GoFundMe for our lifelong best friends, the Yockey family—especially their youngest daughter, Lorelai.

Russell and Kimber are truly some of the most selfless, kind-hearted people you could ever meet. They are the kind of people who show up for everyone—whether you need a meal, help moving, or just someone to lean on. They have opened their home and their hearts to so many over the years without ever asking for anything in return.

Recently, life has brought them more than their share of hardship.

Back in October, Russell—a union plumber and a Type 1 diabetic—stepped on a piece of glass. Within just a week, his heel became necrotic, and he was rushed into emergency surgery. Doctors had to perform a partial amputation to save his life, as he was going septic. Since then, the medical bills have been overwhelming, with ongoing specialized care, a wound vac, and continuous supplies needed for his recovery.

Through all of this, Kimber has been carrying so much on her shoulders. She has been working tirelessly as the sole provider, while also caring for her father and cousin in their home. They had responsibly saved money for a down payment on a house and emergencies—but tragically, almost all of it was stolen, leaving them with only $400.

Despite everything, Kimber has continued to push forward—working, hosting yard sales, and taking on any odd jobs she can just to keep their family afloat. Unfortunately, the challenges have continued. Her most recent job turned out to be hourly instead of salaried, which meant she did not get paid during Christmas break or spring break, putting even more strain on their finances.

Just when it felt like things couldn’t get harder, they received devastating news about their youngest daughter, Lorelai.

Lorelai, only 3 years old, was born with a genetic condition called VUR (vesicoureteral reflux), and has spent much of her young life in and out of the hospital. At her recent check-up at Valley Children’s Hospital, doctors discovered that her condition has worsened, and she has now entered stage 1 kidney disease.

She will need urgent surgery on April 21st to repair her ureters and prevent further, irreversible damage to her kidneys.

This family has always been the first to give, the first to help, and the last to ask for anything in return. Now, they truly need support.

Kimber is an active member in her church community as well and volunteers in the church nursery as well!!!

If you are able, please consider donating. Every contribution, no matter the size, will go directly toward medical expenses, recovery, and helping this incredible family stay on their feet during this incredibly difficult time.

If you can’t donate, please share this and keep them in your prayers.

Let’s come together and support a family who has given so much to others.

Thank you so much ❤️
